    Recap, Thanks, and upcoming

    July 9th, 2009

Been a while since we’ve posted an update so I figured I’d give everyone a brief update of what’s going on. First after we did the Flag Day event in Powhatan we received the following letter of thanks from the Marines. It’s nice to know that we are appreciated and can give back and help worth while causes. It’s funny because while they are thanking us we are thanking them right back. The SALPD fundraiser at Melting Pot went extremely well. I know my wife, friends and I had a great time. On behalf of the Legion I’d like to thank the Melting Pot for their generosity and help with this event. The Fourth of July in Port Royal was indeed a slice of small town Americana. We piped in the colors with the Boy Scouts and listened as the courier from the Continental Congress delivered the Declaration of Independence. We were given a free bbq chicken meal with corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, and a roll. They had ice cold slices of watermelon for $.50. After the meal we played for about 20 – 30 min to wrap up the festivities. We were well received and thanked numerous times. The whole town seemed very glad to have us and welcomed us with open arms.

As good as those things have gone and things have been going we got some bad news with the cancellation of the Irish Festival at Ft. Lee. To be honest I was a little worried about that gig as we would have been coming from Wintergreen earlier in the day. That would have made for an incredibly long day. So the flip side of the bad news is we just have to focus on Wintergreen for that day. For more information click here.

Things are looking a little slow for the rest of July and August but will pick back up in September. We are very fortunate to have picked up some good sponsors and have some good events coming up. Please stay tuned here and to the newsletter for more information about all the upcoming events. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for every Thursday in August for Community Chest night at Capital Ale House. Just print out the form here bring it with you to any of the area Capital Ale Houses and 25% of your food purchases will be donated to the Legion. As always we appreciate your support and look forward to meeting all of you at our next event. Take care and we hope to see you soon.
