    Brief Update

    January 24th, 2009

We are all hard at work making sure we know all the tunes both old and new for the “Big Show” in Amelia on Feb 21st (tickets) Brian and Mary have stopped by and helped us out some and we are sounding good. I think the new formations and stage performance will really shine come time to perform. I know everyone is working hard and I think this show will really be something. I haven’t seen any of the dancers yet but Su Tarr is amazing on the fiddle. This show is really shaping up as something you don’t want to miss.

Next weekend is the Scottish Society of Richmond’s Burns Night. I am really looking forward to attending for several reasons. First of which is I’ve never been to a Burns Night and have always wanted to. The pageantry and culture of it all really appeals to me. I’m also looking forward to the company of my fellow Society members. The food is supposedly really good and a traditional sit down dinner. I’ve also been drafted to participate with the Flowers of the Forest. You know I’ll let you know how it goes next weekend.

In two weeks we go to Virginia Beach to help with the Polar Plunge. For those of you who don’t know the Polar Plunge is an event that helps sponsor Special Olympics. It’s the closest atmosphere to Mardi Gras I have seen. A bunch of nuts jumping in the Ocean in February to raise money. The first time I did this event I assumed we’d pipe all the participants down to the beach but no we actually pipe the special Olympians themselves down. Just a plain amazing site. Especially when you look back and see everyone lining up to jump in. Any way as I was making my morning coffee run at WaWa yesterday I noticed at check out they had the donation tags for the event. Think the MDA Shamrocks but in the shape of the State with a walrus on it. I encourage you all to stop in at your local WaWa and make a donation to this worthy cause. (They got my $5) If you are a people watcher or are a SALPD groupie (yes pipe bands have groupies) you really need to come to Virginia Beach February 7th for a good cause and some amazing sites.
