    National Scots-Irish Heritage Month

    July 16th, 2008

I recently received an email from one of our members, Brad Trimble, that had a link to The Capital Scot. They have started a petition to help Congress with their plan to designate a National Scots-Irish Heritage Month. They helped get signatures to make April 6th National Tartan Day. They are trying to get 1500 signatures by August. You can help by clicking here to sign your name to the petition. Pass this on to everyone you can in the Celtic community and then some.

If you remember Tim worked to get April declared Scottish history month in Virginia. You can click here to see the governors official decree. How great would it be to have a Scots/Irish Heritage Month Nationally? Please do your part by signing the petition and passing it around. Remember part of the purpose of St. Andrew’s Society is to preserve and pass on the culture here is a great opportunity to do so.

    Debriefing

    July 16th, 2008

Here is where things stand as of July 16, 2008. Welcome to new members Chuck Near and Katie Spragg. Both are drum students, Chuck on snare and Katie on tenor. Please make them feel welcome and stop by and say hello to them. I’d also like to take a second to say thanks to Chance Bell for helping us out. I think we are making great strides with Chance and hopefully he agrees. What he did to help us with The Gael was no small feat. We have a lot of talented music people with Tom, Chaz, and Dennis, the addition of Chance and his perspective only makes us better. Our sound is really coming along. Special commendations go to Bill O’Kelly who is making good progress at “the big kids table”. You can hear his improvement every week. We’ve all been there and Bill is about ready to punch through that wall. Who is next to step up from the beginner’s room? *cough* George *cough*

    Upcoming events:
July 31st – Brandywine Firefighters Parade
Aug 4th – SALPD awards night
Aug 6th – Henrico County Firefighters Ceremony
    Aug 23rd – William Wallace Day/SALPD 7th Anniversary

Everyone new as well as Emerald Society folks are invited to all these events. I know Tim has put a lot of planning into the awards night and there are some cool things and guests in store. So kilt up and plan on being there. More details will come about both the awards night and the party on the 23rd. Til then keep practicing and learning the basic sets. Take a look at some of the harder/newer pieces ie MacRae Meadow, The Gael, Caber Feigh, Black Bear etc. to challenge you and make you better. Be prepared to march on Monday that includes all beginners.
