    Independance Day Eve

As we sit here on July 3rd 2008 getting ready for tomorrow and all that it entails from fireworks to picnics, I started thinking about the event we are playing, who we are helping, and why they need help. I went to the Families of the Wounded Fund site and started digging around it a bit more and am amazed at the work these people do. If you go to the site and look at the FAQ section all (that means 100%) of the money goes to help the families that need it. Even to the extent that the board members pick up all the fees and set up costs etc. This organization started out by giving $25 gift cards to help families out and can now give up to $5000. That’s amazing growth, passion and dedication.

If I can help out by standing in the sun a few hours and playing the pipes count me in. We get to do some pretty cool gigs with St. Andrew’s. Some help make money for the band so we can continue to do what we do, while others help spread our love of the culture and heritage while others help raise money for those in our community who need it. The ones we do that help us give back always tend to be my favorite. We live in a great county and have unlimited opportunities here. In my humble opinion it’s our duty to try and give back and make the world a better place. Hopefully I’m doing my bit while setting an example for my daughters. When you can give back while at the same time honoring and helping those that deserve both, does it get better than that?

Prepare yourself with sunscreen and lots water and join us tomorrow when the Legion marches on Powhattan and helps honor those who have helped win our freedom and America herself in what is sure to be a memorable 4th. If you can’t make it to the event please check out the Families of the Wounded Site here and consider donating to this worth while cause.

I was very moved by the Memorial Day events so I can only imagine what could happen tomorrow. When I think of the sacrifices that the men and women of our armed services have made so I can live free, it’s real easy to do this event.
